Scouts Summer Camp 2008
1st Langley Scouts went to the New Forest for a week of fun and activities. We left Langley on Saturday 26th July and travelled down to Ferny Crofts campsite in a minibus. The ground was rock hard!! It took ages to hammer in the tent pegs. Then we lit a camp fire and kept it going right through the week until the last night.
During the camp we did climbing, abseiling and lots of other things with ropes. For one of them we had to work together to try to build a tower of milk-crates with a person on top. We got the camp record! 23 crates before it fell over.
We also built rafts and sailed them on a very muddy pond. One raft stayed together much better than the other!
We did archery and mountain-biking and cooked over the campfire. One night we stayed up really late looking at shooting stars and satellites. Some of us slept out under the stars.
One day we went for a hike and found a stream. We played swinging across it on a rope and kept falling in. It was great.
The last full day we went to Beaulieu Motor Museum and then in the evening we went into Southampton. We had dinner at TGI Fridays (No washing up for once! :-) ) and then we went to a great football match - a pre-season friendly between Southampton and West Ham. It was exciting - a two-all draw.
Then finally we came home on the Saturday. Clearing up took ages, and it rained so all the tents got wet :-(
Best bits? The rope swing over the river. :-)
Worst bits? The washing up and the wasps. :-(
